hi people...
just some quick questions for fun...
have you ever wished that you are not in Law?
why are you here(Law Fac UM) anyway? because u want to? parents? just accepted an unwanted offer?
well.
as for me.
i didnt really have a choice.
i wanted to do something else but my parents didnt allow me to.
and sometimes i feel i dont deserve this spot.
that some law-obssessed person should take it(no offence)
it feels so frustrating at times that i even consider dropping out after 1st year.
but it's the parents' feelings i am trying to protect here.
not mine.
anyone on the same boat?
;)

I think most of us feel this way at one point or another... I don't think a lot of us ever grew up as kids who wanted to be lawyers. I'm sure most of us had other dreams, but yet here we are, mostly for reasons of practicality.
But we make do with what we have, and look for the light at the end of the tunnel.
agreed.
hhhmmm..tharish, wat do u mean by reaons of practiclaity?
I never thought i would be a law student when i was young...never thought of being one, coz i'm kinda shy...then why i'm here now? dunno...no pressure from parents actually, i juz feel that i was chosen to be here for a reason...n i think i must stay till the very end to find out the reasons...
As for me, I grew up wanting to be a lawyer but that changed when I was in form 5. I wanted to study something related to Physics. But finally after SPM, my family kinda convinced me that I was born to read law...not that I believe that though. I still love Maths and Physics the most!
i never thought i would take up law because i wanted to be a linguist since young. but i couldnt for some reasons and i'm here. Like anonymous said , i want to wait till the end to find the answer..there must be a reason why i'm here..at the same time , i force myself to do the best. life is not easy :\
as for me, i hv x regret for studying law now.neither pressure nor unwanted invitation hv make me stay in law fac.just because i simply love law study...
btw, looks like many ppl are x that reluctant to stay here....
There a few reasons of practicality. 1. This the course u'r parents chose 2. You'd make a lot of money from law instead of say, journalism 3. Its the best degree to have when in doubt 4. You really didn't know what to do, so why not law.
Etc, etc...
Passion drives a person to strive harder to achieve greater heights in realizing one's dream. . .
Law, I feel is a subject which covers a spectrum of fields ( ie : society, psychology, history, business, economics, EVEN science,IT and believe it or not, art ).
Each and every one of us at this stage of our lives would realize our potentials, our more outstanding abilities and our weaknesses . . .
Some may realize that their utmost potential is let to waste by doing law. . .( ie : if a person feels that photography and performing arts is their passion, studying law hinders their passion to be nurtured to achieve their dreams) . . . .
These are two advice a friend could give these people :
1. remain studying law and at the same time, develope your true passion and potential (it will certainly increase ur marketability for employment)
-or-
2. take a huge leap, quite law and do whatever you want to do regardless of what people may say to you. C'mon, its your life, your dreams, your destiny. . . .
(TO DECIDE SO, DO IT IN UR 1ST YEAR, IT'LL BE TOO LATE IN UR 3RD YR BABE!)
However, i feel that the exams and the results should not be a yardstick to determine, "damn! i suck at law. i want to do mass comm now!". . .
PEOPLE, we were chosen to enter into THE UNIVERSITY OF MALAYA...and not any other faculty...THE FACULTY OF LAW....God, no matter what name we call Him, must have His plans for us...
and somehow, the entrance into the fac of law,UM is a testament that 'you can do law, thats why ur in'
All in all, this is a mere opinion of a first yr law student in UM...just like any of u, struggling to score at least a C to pass an exam paper. . .
And yes, i agree with Tharish on practability reasons of studying law... call us old fashion, but that the reality of it :)
If the inability of pursuing a dream is the issue there are ways to solve this.
i mean for sure, most of ur time is spent doing sumthing u dislike, mebbe even detest, but hey, u still have time in ur hands rite?
so use that time wisely.
I love music. to death.
so i use wuteva time i haf, maximizing it for music.
especially the hols.
itz possible, if you really push yourself hard enuf.
juz because u take law, it doesnt mean dat ur dreams are totally crushd.
get dat degree. wut happens after is still up to u.
if u still wanna pursue law, by all means, go ahead.
but if u are more determined than eva to screw law and do wut u love, go ahead.
at least you haf a backup. a pretty strong one at dat.
time management is key (cliche, i know)
but if u really really want it,anythin is possible.
A concept that i haf forgotten but thankfully a strong jolt of changes in my life made me realize wut i haf been missing.
Aut vim inveniam aut faciam
if there's a will, there's a way!
-dima-
I agree with Fendy. I think God has put us on this path for a reason. We reap what we sow after all.
And Dima's right- dont't waste the extra time you have. And i think a lot of us are already doing this. Good example, besides Dima, would be Yazman and his interest in fashion and film. Also Farah Rani and her career as an actress.
There are many more, but it just shows you have versatile we all are! And for that, we are a colourful bunch indeed!
For me, juggling music and law is really hard. Maybe cause i get myself in other things too. Its hard to commit to singing at night for a show then having to come into class the next morning PREPARED for tutorials. Which is why i've put this somewhat on hold.
I salute those that are able to do this! You guys are awesome!
have fun doing law people.
=) if u don't want to do it, don't do it.
it is never too late.
its too late when u keep on complaining and do nothing bout it.
stop complaining/whining and do something.
like some of u said, its ur own life. TRUE.
so, act on it.
maybe what "they" think is best for you, is actually not.
there are lots of ways and options.
decide.
=)
hie guys...I know it's kindoff late to leave a comment but who cares....
Someone once told me that taking up law is like having a cushion to fall back on one day."get the law degree 1st than do whateva you want to do.Coz in case that wateva fails, you still have the law degree, you still have something solid to help you get a job" or something like that.
Fyi, i wanted to do hotel catering after SPM but here i am
